Quick hits in the news today. My friend Jay Rivera, President of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity chapter at UW-Madison, was in the paper today. He shared with Penelope Trunk about being a group leader and positive habits. Penelope Trunk's blog can be seen here.
On the entrepreneurial note, amazing website came to my attention today via the inquiring minds at Mother Jones. Nicole McClelland's article titled "SugarDaddy.com" is about exactly that. Females seeking a monetary stipend for regular interludes with well-off men is nothing new. But, a website that streamlines the whole process is just what the doctor ordered.
Think about it. No longer do gold-digging tramps and money-grubbing whores have to spend countless nights at the King Club sifting through potential marks to find Daddy Warbucks with loose morals. Designing a profile seems like picking your seat on the 757 to Heaven with monetary minimums and age boundaries. Oh, yeah.
Last but not least, for the gentlemen out there, the site has an option for a SugarBabe or Sugar Mama. I would freak if I had a 36 year old paying my rent for a session a week. Golddiggers, don't front.

Are people actually comfortable admitting to themselves that they would seek someone out just for money? It is terrifying that there is enough demand to keep a place like that open. I'm not sure which is scarier, the people that go their looking for money, or the people willing to give it away to someone so shallow and reliant on others. I know it is funny to joke about, but it is amazingly prevalent.
many people are very comfortable with it. i'm quite sure the monetary gains are enough for any poor girl to make the decision to put up a profile on sugardaddie.com. It has basically just streamlined a very common occurence in everyday life. Why not do it openly and prevent the deceit/seduction involved in bagging a real life sugar daddy.
Maybe this is related, maybe not, but there was a story recently in the Chronicle of Higher Education about female college students taking to stripping to pay for their educations at Ivy League schools: http://tinyurl.com/34blhj
Money pays for the things we want, like an education, so are the "golddiggers" all that bad? One reason I joined the Army was because they (unlike the other branches) offered to pay off all my BFA loans, and I got the GI Bill -- tens of thousands of dollars. Maybe GoArmy.com is like SugarDaddy.com on some level?
I wouldn't say that "monetary gains are enough for any poor girl to make the decision." It would take a lot more than money problems to make me compromise my self-respect. Sorry for the bitterness. It isn't really directed at you, so much as stems from my life as we speak.
I know that people like this exist. Believe me, I know better than most. My mom happens to be one of these women. Well...I don't think she actually put a profile on any websites, but she did marry a man that she though was an extremely successful real estate agent. That bit her in the ass. I actually want to send her the link and tell her maybe she'll have better luck with her next marriage.
